Let's Create & Embed a Screencast w/ Screencast-o-matic!

Screencast-o-matic is a great screencasting tools that does audio and screen capture. It allows you to quickly create engaging and timely learning objects for your students. A screencast is provided to demonstrate embedding a screencast on the Home Page or in the Announcements area of your NMSU Blackboard course (you may need to turn up your sound, my sound settings were a bit low). Ten easy steps are also provided specifically for embedding on your Course Home Page.

 

10 Steps to Embed a Screencast in your Course Home Page!

 

  1. Go to http://screencast-o-matic.com/  
  2. Go to My Screencasts & scroll down a lot
  3. Find the area for Embed Code & choose the size you want
  4. Copy the code (control or command + C)
  5. Go to your course's Home Page in Build tab mode
  6. Click on Page Options in the upper right & select Header or Footer
  7. Make sure to change out of HTML Creator mode if that's what comes up
  8. Paste the code in the text box
  9. Make sure the Use HTML box is checked
  10. Save

 


 

Let's Create & Embed a Voki 

Voki is an animated avatar tool that allows you a minute of recorded voice time. You can also call your message in, write the message and have it digitally spoken, or upload an audio file. A screencast is provided to demonstrate embedding a Voki in the Announcements area and in a Learning Module in your NMSU Blackboard course (again, turn up your sound). Ten easy steps are also provided specifically for embedding in a Learning Module in your course.

 

10 Steps to Embed a Voki in a Learning Module in Your Course!

 

  1. Go to http://voki.com/
  2. Select Create 
  3. Customize your Voki and Give It a Voice
  4. Select Publish when you are done, don't worry, you can still edit 
  5. Select the size you want and copy the code (control or command + C)
  6. Go to your course's Learning Modules in Build tab mode
  7. Click Add File & Create File 
  8. Make sure to change out of HTML Creator mode if that's what comes up
  9. Add a title and paste the code in the text box
  10. Make sure the Use HTML box is checked
  11. Save

YouTube is a video creation tool that allows you to upload up to 1 gigabyte of video. You can also use your computer's camera and microphone to create up to 10 minutes of video where you speak directly to your learners. And of course, there is a world of existing video that you can embed and sometimes download for use with your learners.
