We didn't use to have a midterm or final. But we realized that utilizing exams is massive norm and thought we would attempt to work within that norm. We use these norms as an opportunity for us to model some alternative and authentic types of assessment, as an opportunity for you to review and apply what you have encountered up to this point, and it's a break from the normal routine which is important for the "flow" of an online class.
Please feel free to use your texts, online resources, and each other for this midterm.

Your friend and colleague was suddenly asked this semester to teach a course online. The course is up and running and a couple of weeks have passed. Your colleague is very stressed and has come to you in a bit of a panic because he or she is having some issues with her students. She's receiving tons of emails from students asking for help with finding content, asking what to do next, etc. Some students are also complaining that they aren't sure online learning is for them because they feel very isolated. What assumptions would you make about how this course got started? What suggestions do you have to a) help your friend right now and b) how to get started next semester because she's going to teach it again.
